The Mendon Foundation’s Environmental Education Committee is sponsoring the celebration of Earth Day at the Sibleyville Nature Reserve. All the family is invited to this exciting event.

12 n - 2 pm: Learn about Honeoye Creek’s ecosystem and water quality by assisting Water Watch Program staff taking water samples, conducting tests and evaluating the water system. Presented by: Robin Long, Harley School teacher & Margo Bauer, Cornell Cooperative Extension Natural Resources Educator

1pm - 2pm & 2pm - 3pm: Learn about and view the warm weather grasses planted as part of the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP). Presented by David Kitchie, biologist with the USDA (United States Dept. of Agriculture) and NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service)

1pm -2pm & 3pm - 4pm: Discover the beauty of our earth through natural landscaping and habitat planting. Presented by: James Engel, nurseryman and native New York plant specialist

12n -1 pm & 3pm -4pm: Take a guided walk through the woods and learn to identify trees and understand their importance in our environment with Tree Specialists: Dr. Dan Marion and James Atwater

12n -1pm & 2pm -3pm: Take a guided walk through the woods to identify residing wildlife and study their habitat.Led by John Hauber, Wildlife Biologist.

1pm -2pm & 3pm -4pm: Take a guided walk through the woods and grasslands learning to identify birds by their songs and appearance with bird specialists Dave & Kathy Tetlow

Father of Earth Day was John McConnell. Earth Day was proclaimed by The United Nations on March 21, 1971 for all time as an annual event to deepen reverence and care for life on our planet. John McConnell stated; “What could be more appropriate than the first moment of spring, when day and night are equal around the world and hearts and minds can join together with thoughts of harmony and Earth's rejuvenation.”
